From Kolkata to the World: How Ohh Folk!! Rekindles the Art of Storytelling

Ohh-folk-Kolkata-to-the-World-by-Shilpa-Das-Gupta

From Kolkata to the world, a voice has chosen a deliberate, lasting pace- the pace of stories, in a world obsessed with fast content and fleeting attention.

Meet Shilpa Das Gupta, a South Asian media professional from Kolkata. Her globally-renowned podcast, Ohh Folk!!, is an effort to resurrect the ancient practice of oral storytelling for people today.

Where Stories Transcend Time

Step into a world where stories never fade. Ohh Folk!! is more than just a podcast; it’s a bridge across centuries and cultures. Featured as one of the Top 50 Global Folklore Podcasts by Feedspot and officially recognised by the American Folklore Society, this podcast reveals extraordinary and quirky folktales from around the world.

Shilpa Das Gupta, the show’s creator and host, reveals the lesser-known stories that travel quietly via word of mouth; the stories that may be missed in our modern popular culture. Some of the stories are creepy, some amusingly witty and wise, and others reflect a simple observation on life. What they share in common is an element of transcendence from the prevailing times that provides appreciation for human existence.

Every episode carries listeners on an experience of history, mystery and cultural context,  magically sharing (sometimes spine-tingling, sometimes heartwarming) stories told with differing degrees of legendary manner, and ancient tales with generative layers of wisdom. Shilpa’s immersive storytelling has the rare quality of feeling like time and space travel, without ever leaving the headphone experience.

Stories That Travel Beyond Borders

Ohh-folk-Kolkata-to-the-World-by-Shilpa-Das-Gupta-01

Ohh Folk!! brings together a mix of eerie legends, moral tales, and heartfelt parables, all retold with care and imagination. Every episode shares an old tale with a perspective fit for contemporary ears, while staying true to the origins. In an era when social media incentivises speed and length of content, Ohh Folk!! chooses slowness: the pace that allows for a story to breathe. Shilpa’s storytelling makes her audiences feel as though they are listening to a wise elder by the fire – and where the pause, as much as the word, matters.

Core Theme Reviving and reimagining oral storytelling traditions across cultures

From Kolkata’s Stories to a Global Mic

Shilpa was born and raised in Kolkata within a home where stories were part of life, folk legends from Bengal, mythic stories from epics, and the small stories that come through every family. These stories offered her understanding of people, emotions, and history very long before a textbook did.

That upbringing informed her worldview, along with her own inclination towards storytelling. Then, when she lived abroad, she understood how stories connect people regardless of geography. Ohh Folk!! became her way to preserve that connection while sharing the richness of oral traditions with a global audience.

“Folktales remind us who we are,” says Shilpa. “They carry lessons our ancestors left behind.”

Now living in the U.S., she continues to record and produce episodes after work hours, balancing her podcast alongside her full-time job and family life. It’s not a commercial project but a personal commitment: a way of keeping old voices alive in the digital age.

Keeping an Old Tradition Alive

The idea for Ohh Folk!! came during the pandemic, when isolation made everyone turn inward. While many people turned to screens, Shilpa turned to sound. She began recording from her living room after work, determined to give voice to stories that might otherwise disappear.

In an online world full of short clips and noise, her slow, careful storytelling feels personal. Each episode is prepared with attention, researched introductions, simple narration, and quiet background sounds that make the story feel close.

Common Threads in Many Cultures

Listeners frequently write to mention that a story from Japan reminds them of a Bengal story or that an African parable feels familiar to their own family tale. For Shilpa, this is the core of the project: uncovering what people share in the stories they tell.

Some of her recurring themes include:

  • The link between South Asian roots and global stories
  • Shared morals and emotions are found across cultures
  • How folklore builds understanding between people
  • The growing space for women in storytelling
  • The role of podcasts in keeping oral traditions alive

The Voice Behind the Work

Shilpa Das Gupta is a vibrant technology influencer. She served as an education technologist, voiced over, told stories, and broadcast podcasts. The excitement of history and cultural studies is embedded in her practice and process. As an enthusiastic researcher and content creator, she boasts a long and rich history of quality project development within multiple genre platforms.

She brings over a decade of multicultural experience in both Indian and U.S. media and education sectors to her storytelling with skill and depth. Her expertise in technology enables her control over the production process, while cultural influence keeps her narrative talking in a personal and authentic tone.

It’s this mix of professionalism and heart that gives Ohh Folk!! It’s a steady, honest tone. She doesn’t dramatise her stories. She tells them simply, letting the listener do the imagining.

Final Thoughts

Oh, Folk!! distinguishes itself because it doesn’t hurry to amuse; it prefers to create connections. In every tale, from India to Iceland, there is something that is human and does not change.

With her voice, Shilpa Das Gupta restores the uncomplicated ability to listen that asks for patience and rewards it with understanding. Her work shows that stories still know how to hold their power in the digital world, simply by telling them honestly.

From the courtyards of Kolkata to a broader audience, she carries on a practice that will always have someone willing to listen.

Malayalam-OTT-Releases-This-Week,-October-6-to-11,-2025

Three intriguing Malayalam films will appear on OTT this second week of October, each with a different storytelling format. Ranging from emotive, musical narratives to strange comedies and modern stories about relationships, the entertainment slate for the week of October 6 to 11, 2025, has something for multiple feelings. This week once again displays the breadth of Malayalam cinema in balancing artistic substance with entertainment. Here are some of the latest Malayalam OTT releases you definitely cannot miss out –

Mehfil – SunNXT (October 10)

Malayalam-OTT-Releases-This-Week,-October-6-to-11,-2025-Mehfil

Mehfil immerses audiences in the true story behind one of the most beloved characters in Malayalam cinema. Director Jayaraj has formed this sincere and intimate musical drama around Mullassery Rajagopal, the real person who inspired Mohanlal’s legendary Mangalassery Neelakandan in the films Devasuram and Ravanaprabhu.

The film centres on a single mehfil night in Raju’s life, showing how this charismatic man becomes the emotional anchor for everyone around him. Rather than focusing on power or conflict, Jayaraj examines the human side – relationships, music, and the way Raju masks his own struggles to uplift others. Mukesh steps into the title role, supported by Asha Sharath as his wife, creating an authentic portrayal of this legendary Kozhikode figure.

In addition to its original commitment to musical storytelling, eight original compositions by Deepankuran and Kaithapram drive the narrative, with performances by some of India’s most noted artists, including Ramesh Narayan, G Venugopal, and Vaikom Vijayalakshmi.

Produced by Dr Manoj Govindan under the banner of Wide Screen Media Productions, Mehfil commits to reveal the man behind the legend – a person who found strength in providing joy to others, even while living through pain. This is not just biographical storytelling, but a storytelling of a celebration of music, family, and resilience.

Once Upon A Time There Was A Kallan – ManoramaMAX (October 8)

Malayalam-OTT-Releases-This-Week,-October-6-to-11,-2025-Once-Upon-A-Time-There-Was-A-Kallan

Once Upon A Time There Was A Kallan tells an unlikely duo made up of Sreenath Bhasi in his first leading role and Sreelakshmi Sreekumar in her film debut. The story centres on Neelankavil Joseph Kurien, an old man with plenty of wealth, but a miser living alone in the village of Thookillangadi after the death of his wife.

Joseph’s world revolves around cheap savings for his two children settled in the Gulf of the richly saving. Every six months, he dutifully sends his collected savings to their safety with a devotion that demonstrates what he believes is fatherhood, and while he may have penny-pinching tendencies, his servant, Vineetha, depends on her income from his household to live.

The story takes an interesting turn when thief Hari breaks into Joseph’s house with a discernible plan. After several events, he ends up trapped inside. Joseph finds himself in the conflicting situation of being robbed or befriended, and this is a situation that Joseph chooses, and the two men form a companionship that ends up providing the old man with a friendship to fill the voids of his loneliness.

Working for the viewer is Fazil Mohammed’s direction; the rest of the story unfolds as more humour and hand-to-hand interactions are shared between the two completely different men, allowing warmth to develop from a situation that began with conflict.

PWD (Proposal Wedding Divorce) – SainaPlay (October 9)

Malayalam-OTT-Releases-This-Week,-October-6-to-11,-2025-PWD-Proposal-Wedding-Divorce

PWD (Proposal Wedding Divorce) tackles modern relationship anxieties through a wedding journey gone sideways. Writer-director Joe Joseph creates a “conversational debate drama” that starts as a rom-com but quickly becomes something deeper when bride Eileen Xavier Pynkarath drops an unexpected bombshell just before her marriage gets legalised.

Set against the scenic backdrop of Pynkarath Estate in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, this mini-feature follows what should have been a smooth wedding trip from Pala to Ooty. Instead, Eileen’s unusual demand transforms the entire celebration into an intense discussion about marriage itself. Her request specifically challenges traditional Indian marriage certificate norms, pushing both the groom and wedding party into uncomfortable territory.

Joe Joseph, who co-stars with Neetha George and Clair Sara Martin, shapes the film around real conversations that couples often have but rarely express. The film does not rely on overbearing, dramatic confrontations or overly imaginative dynamics, but, in part, finds a place of ‘tension’ in the space between what is expected or traditionally held in marriage and what the participants want from their partners.

The focus stays tight on Eileen’s cold feet, her fiancé’s reactions, and the ripple effects of questioning something everyone assumes is straightforward. For viewers dealing with their own relationship questions or marriage pressures, this SainaPlay release offers validation that it’s okay to pause and ask hard questions, even at the altar.

Things to Consider When Travelling to Southeast Destinations

Check Visa Requirements

Before setting off for Southeast Asia, ensure you are familiar with the visa requirements for each country on your route. Nations like Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore permit short stays without a visa, while others, such as Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar, require advance application or an e-visa.

Always confirm the specific entry regulations for every stop on your journey to avoid last-minute surprises.

Secure Travel Insurance

Travel-Insurance

No trip should be planned without proper travel insurance. Beyond covering medical emergencies, an adequate policy can also protect you from unexpected events such as cancelled flights, lost baggage, or delays. Having reliable coverage in place will give you peace of mind as you explore new destinations.

Choose the Right Time to Travel

The region experiences a tropical climate, characterised by hot and humid weather for most of the year, although conditions vary. From November to February, temperatures are relatively cooler, but occasional rainfall is common.

The monsoon season, which spans from June to October, often brings heavy showers, with the Philippines being particularly affected by typhoons. March and April are usually drier, though air quality can be poor due to the burning season.

Respect Language, Culture, and Traditions

Respect Language, Culture, and Traditions

While English is widely understood in major cities and tourist hubs, rural areas tend to rely more on local languages and dialects. Southeast Asia’s cultural diversity is immense, but across the region, respect, humility, and modesty are core values that are deeply ingrained. A little cultural sensitivity goes a long way in ensuring a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Consider Rentals for Getting Around

Travelling overland is common, with buses and trains offering affordable connections between countries such as Thailand and Cambodia or Vietnam and Laos. Within cities, tuk-tuks, taxis, and motorbike rentals provide quick and convenient ways to get around. Be sure to agree on fares in advance to avoid being overcharged.

Travelling through Southeast Asia in 2025 promises an enriching mix of discovery, affordability, and cultural connection. By planning wisely, securing the right visas, and preparing with essentials, you can enjoy the freedom to immerse yourself in the region’s diverse landscapes and traditions.

Whether your journey takes you to bustling capitals, hidden villages, or serene coastlines, Southeast Asia offers an unforgettable adventure that proves remarkable travel experiences do not need to come at a high cost

COSMICPUNK at 47-A Mumbai: When Indian Folklore Meets Futurism

0

COSMICPUNK Art Exhibition

At Mumbai’s 47-A gallery, COSMICPUNK opens its doors not as a typical exhibition, but as a portal into another realm. Conceived by Boomranng Studio’s artist duo, Sonal Vasave and Makarand Narkar, this show invites viewers to step into a world shaped by the mysterious Dark Sun, a cosmic force so immense that it fractured civilisations and rewrote the meaning of belief.

Set to run until the end of October, the exhibition collects artefacts that appear to have floated into this world from an alternate universe, a remnant of a civilisation whose highest virtue is curiosity, a world that merges magic and science, where myth and reason are two sides of the same imaginative coin.

Fragments from the Cosmicpunk Universe

Each object in COSMICPUNK has the feeling of being a recovered relic, initiating discovery quietly. The exhibition itself becomes all of these things: paintings, sculpture, and jewellery, alongside textiles that are signifiers of a world that never quite existed. The tension of the experience is neither futurist nor nostalgic but somewhere in between, where time folds back on itself.

The exhibition opens with the emblem of the Dark Sun, the emblem that offers a pivot point for the story that is being told. After, you move through a constellation of rooms, each filled with objects that gesture toward the stories of a people, their rituals, and their conflicts under the influence of the Dark Sun.

Here, curiosity is sacred. Knowledge has no hierarchy. In the Cosmicpunk universe, belief and logic are not in opposition; they coexist, questioning and reshaping each other constantly.

The Questions at the Core

  • What happens when a civilisation faces a discovery so vast it changes everything it knows?
  • What role does faith play when it divides instead of unites?
  • How does the human spirit survive oppression and continue to create?
  • And what lies beyond what we can understand or explain?

These questions form the pulse of COSMICPUNK. Some are delicately stitched into the artworks; others are raw and unresolved. The viewer is not given answers, only a quiet push toward the unknown. The exhibition does not aim to preach or decode. Instead, it encourages reflection, asking each visitor to consider how imagination can both destroy and rebuild the world around it.

The Minds Behind the Myth

Sonal Vasave and Makarand Narkar, the creative force behind Boomranng Studio, have built their practice on storytelling. Residing and working in Mumbai, the two artists view the role of art as an examination of human resilience and the transference of emotion into subject matter. COSMICPUNK is their most personal endeavour; the project stemmed from a hybridisation of hope, curiosity toward, and the understanding of what binds us as people across belief systems and time.

The two artists are inspired by aesthetics from across cultures. The work combines aspects of South East Asian ritual, Western symbolism, and Indian mythic motifs in a manner where visuality mediates between past and future, yesterday’s belief and tomorrow’s angst. What emerges is a visual language which somehow balances the universal and the personal.

A World Between Worlds

The work in COSMICPUNK treats myth as not as history, but as being alive, restless, and still being invented. The artefacts might seem like fiction, but they are all engaged with important questions of power, spirituality, and seeking meaning.

In fact, each object in the exhibition feels like a clue to how civilisations rise, fall, and rise again through imagination. The artists remind us always that faith and reason are not enemies, but rather instances of the human urge to explore.

By the time one leaves 47-A, the distinction between art and faith may feel less certain. The world outside seems just a little more fluid, as if the Dark Sun still burns quietly somewhere beyond sight, reshaping the stories we tell ourselves. COSMICPUNK isn’t just an exhibition. It’s a reminder that curiosity itself is an act of creation.

Karva Chauth 2025: Puja Timings, Rituals & Significance

Karva-Chauth-Date-2025

Every October, as the cool autumn breeze comes in and with it, the full moon begins its slow descent, an all-powerful traditional tapestry settles down in millions of homes across India. This cultural endeavour is observed by the married women as Karva Chauth, a tradition that is as old and as deep as devotion, partnership, and faith. For one complete day, the wife observes a rigorous Nirjala Vrat (fast without water) for the longevity and prosperity of her husband, taking a simple abstinence into a colourful, emotional event. From the spiritual experience of the pre-dawn meal to the anxious, collective wait for the first sighting of the moon, Karva Chauth is a living prayer, crafted carefully into a cultural adrenaline rush of faith, commitment, and love. It is more than a practice; it’s annual reconstruction of the sacred bond of marriage, with glittering saris and mehndi ensuring the completion of the event with spirit.

In the days leading up to the big day, excitement builds for this beloved hour of married affection. No matter whether you are fasting for the first time, or you have been celebrating Karva Chauth for decades now, here is your go to guide for the perfect Karva Chauth.

Karva Chauth 2025 & Timings

This year, Karva Chauth falls on Friday, 10 October 2025. According to Hindu Panchang:

Event Date and Timings
Date Friday, 10th October 2025
Chaturthi Tithi Begins Thursday, 9th October 2025 at 10:54 PM

Puja Muhurat Friday, 10th October 2025 from 5:57 PM to 7:11 PM
Moonrise for Breaking Fast Friday, 10th October 2025 at 8:13 PM

Karva Chauth Rituals and Traditions

Karva-Chauth-Sargi

  • Sargi: A meal that is given to the wife by her mother-in-law in the early morning before sunrise to nourish her throughout the day. It serves as a blessing.
  • Puja and Vrat Katha: That evening, women dress in their best traditional clothes (Solah Shringar) to pray to Goddess Parvati and listen to the Vrat Katha (story).
  • Moon Sighting: Until the wife sees the moon, she does not break her fast. She sees the moon first through a sieve, offers water (or arghya), and then sees her husband.
  • Breaking the Fast: The husband then offers his wife the first sip of water and bite of food and officially completes the ritual honoring her commitment.

Regional Celebrations of Karva Chauth

Regional-Celebrations-of-Karva-Chauth

While the underlying theme remains constant, a fast for the welfare of the husband lasting a full day, the methods, foods, and ambiance differ significantly throughout India.

Cultures of North India (Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, UP)

In some of the states of like Punjab, Haryana and Delhi, Karva Chauth is likely celebrated in the most majestic form. In the context of the Sargi, the daughter’s mother and mother-in-law are likely to give gifts to their daughters and daughters-in-law. The evening ceremony is characterized by the gathering of neighbors, wearing bridal clothing, sharing the katha. The meal that ends the fast is typically a banquet of local favorites such as aloo ki sabzi, puri, and sweets made with homemade ghee.

Traditions of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh

In Rajasthan, the connection with the Karva pot may be rooted deeper. A well-known local tradition is praying to Gaur Mata, whose image is often made of soil and cow dung, although nowadays these images are usually made from other substitutes. Rajasthani customs also endorse the telling of folk stories or songs specific to the area and culture. Similarly, in Madhya Pradesh, the women are highly devoted to the fast with some much worshiping Lord Ganesha in tandem with Parvati.

Regional Variations

There are subtle but significant differences. In certain areas of Uttar Pradesh, the Soot Feni (a sweet, milky dish) is part of the Sargi. In some areas of Punjab, the Baya, a custom where the bride’s mother gives gifts to her daughter (the bride) and her new husband (the son-in-law) would reinforce the connection between her family and the bride’s new family. Variations are normal where one sentiment can be displayed in a variety of local practices.

Cultural and Social Significance

Cultural-and-Social-Significance

Karva Chauth is often examined from a modern angle that questions the essence of fasting. Regardless of this interpretation, it continues to engage profound cultural understanding.

Karva Chauth is, at its core, a renewing of vows that occurs annually. It represents the three foundational elements of enduring marriage:

  • Devotion (Shraddha): The wife’s fasting is a selfless act of love.
  • Trust (Vishwas): The husband returning her devotion in the sip of water he offers.
  • Partnership: The modern phenomenon of men joining their wives in fasting has changed the ritual from patriarchal duty to actual shared commitment, which also serves as another pillar of a marriage focused on shared commitment.

The celebration has also been able to adapt to modern times. Technology is integral today, and social media is full of beautiful pictures of women’s Solah Shringar and theme mehndi designs, creating community even for gals who are alone fasting. And perhaps the modern take is less duty and more about choice and celebration so that the fast is now one of love and commitment, it has shifted from duty to choice.

Conclusion

Karva Chauth is a timeless celebration on the ancient pathways of religion, that still merges sanctity from millennia past, and the kindred attitude of living in reciprocity today.  Karva Chauth illustrates the old truism- that love is a force that conquers all, all if it is built on commitment.

His photography exhibition, “Wandering Eye,” hosted at the Jehangir Art Gallery’s Terrace Gallery from October 8 to 14, 2025, is less about spectacle and more about stillness. The show opens on October 8 at 5 p.m., inaugurated by eminent guests, veteran visual artist Prakash Bal Joshi, Dr. Sanjay Bhide (Founder, Convenor and Secretary of TACCI), and Mukesh Parpiani, the legendary photojournalist whose work has chronicled decades of visual history.

If you’ve been craving an exhibition that slows time and reawakens your sense of observation, this article has you covered. “Wandering Eye” by Sateesh Dingankar at Mumbai’s Jehangir Art Gallery isn’t just another photography show, it’s an invitation to linger, to let your gaze rest on the overlooked textures of the everyday.

Artists’s Journey and Vision

Dingankar’s artistic development is a unique one: he is a science graduate who forged a career in banking while simultaneously maintaining a long-standing relationship with the arts. Schooled in the early years by national treasures M. S. Joshi and Prabhakar Kolte, Dingankar developed an eye that straddles the spaces between mediums. His transition from painting to photography is not a chance shift but a continuation of a point of view. For him, both mediums revolve around light: how it reveals, conceals, and converses with texture and time.

Sateesh Dingankar’s involvement in the art world within India has been incremental since 2003. He has exhibited work at notable places such as Birla Academy (Mumbai), Bajaj Art Gallery, and Monalisa Kalagram (Pune), alongside notable online juried exhibitions in Dubai and the United States. His creative footprint also extends into publishing, most notably, a Marathi poetry collection combining thirty original poems with his own paintings and photographs, and his design collaboration for Aflatoon Mumbai, published by Granthali.

The Visual Philosophy

Sateesh’s work possesses the serenity of a painter’s mind, each picture representing a negotiation of shape, emptiness, and an indication of motion. His aesthetic follows the Japanese sensibility of Wabi-Sabi, which appreciates beauty in the flawed and fleeting. To Sateesh, the tattered wall, the shattered mirror, or the sanguine color of a derelict alley are not evidence of decay but rather meditative spaces, visual histories of resilience.

Through this lens:

  • The irregular becomes lyrical.
  • Decay transforms into quiet revelation.
  • The play of light and shadow suggests continuity rather than loss.
  • Each image becomes an act of patient witnessing.

For Dingankar, photography is not mere documentation, it is an ongoing conversation with time. He invites viewers to look at the world not as a static surface but as form in action.

Step into the Everlasting Experience

Wandering-Eye'-An-Exhibition-of-Photographs-by-Sateesh-Dingankar-02

In this age of high definition immediacy, “Wandering Eye” is like an antidote, a slow-art experience that reminds us that looking is an art form. With his disciplined gaze and attention to nuance and imperfection, Dingankar redefines our way of seeing the urban landscape. In our ever visually-emphasized world, his work provides an opportunity to meditate, reminding us that every surface touched by time has an inherent tacit wisdom waiting for the patient eye to see it.

Art lovers, photographers, or simply the curious and observant are once again invited to this conversation of light and texture at Jehangir Art Gallery. Let your own wandering eye take pause a little longer; perhaps it will find itself in a beauty you didn’t anticipate.

Futures vs. Options in Crypto: What’s the Difference?

0

Futures-vs-Options-in-Crypto-What’s-the-Difference-01

Cryptocurrency trading has evolved far beyond simple spot markets. Today, derivatives like futures and options play a central role in helping traders manage risk, hedge against volatility, and amplify potential returns. As crypto markets mature in 2025, understanding the distinction between futures and options is critical for both beginners exploring trading strategies and experienced investors seeking advanced tools.

This article explains how crypto futures and options work, highlights their similarities and differences, and explores which instrument may be better suited for different types of traders. All examples are for educational purposes only and do not constitute financial advice.

What Are Crypto Futures?

Crypto futures are contracts that obligate two parties to buy or sell a digital asset at a predetermined price on a specified date in the future. Unlike spot trading, futures allow traders to speculate on the price direction of cryptocurrencies without holding the underlying asset.

Key Characteristics of Futures

  • Obligation to Execute: Futures must be settled, either by delivery or cash settlement, depending on the contract type.
  • Leverage: Futures trading often involves high leverage. On MEXC, traders can access leverage up to 500x on select perpetual contracts.
  • Liquidity: Futures are among the most liquid instruments in crypto. In 2025, MEXC futures average over $26 billion in daily trading volume across 600+ pairs.
  • No Upfront Premium: Unlike options, futures do not require an upfront payment to open a position.

MEXC Futures Highlights

  • Over 600 trading pairs available.
  • 0% maker fees and ultra-competitive taker fees.
  • Industry-leading liquidity depth, reducing slippage even during volatile markets on major pairs such as BTCUSDT.
  • User-friendly trading terminal with advanced order types and risk management tools.

What Are Crypto Options?

Crypto options are contracts that give the holder the right, but not the obligation, to buy (call option) or sell (put option) an underlying cryptocurrency at a specific price before or on a set expiration date.

Key Characteristics of Options

  • Flexibility: Traders are not obligated to exercise an option. They can choose to let it expire worthless.
  • Premium Payment: To enter an options contract, the buyer pays a premium upfront. This is the maximum possible loss.
  • Risk Management: Options are often used for hedging strategies, such as protecting portfolios against downside risk.
  • Time Sensitivity: Options are subject to time decay, meaning their value decreases as expiration approaches if the market does not move favorably. Traders researching smaller assets or forecasts, such as Beldex coin price prediction, often use this understanding to manage option timing more effectively.

While options trading is still developing in crypto markets compared to futures, it is gaining traction in 2025 as traders seek more sophisticated hedging tools.

Futures vs. Options: Similarities

Both futures and options fall under the category of derivatives, meaning they derive their value from the performance of an underlying asset such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, or meme coins. Here are the main similarities:

  • No Direct Ownership: Both allow exposure to price movements without owning the actual crypto.
  • Leverage Opportunities: Traders can amplify positions with borrowed capital.
  • Hedging Use Cases: Institutions and retail traders use derivatives to protect against market swings.
  • Speculation Potential: Both instruments support directional bets on price movements.

Futures vs. Options: Key Differences

Despite their similarities, the two instruments differ significantly in mechanics and risk profiles.

Obligation vs. Choice

  • Futures: Mandatory execution on the expiration date (unless closed earlier).
  • Options: Right but not obligation, providing more flexibility.

Cost Structure

  • Futures: No upfront premium. Traders only need margin collateral.
  • Options: Require a premium paid at the start, which is the maximum loss.

Risk Exposure

  • Futures: Unlimited potential losses if markets move against the position, though margin and liquidation levels apply.
  • Options: Losses capped at the premium, making them more risk-contained.

Liquidity

  • Futures: Extremely liquid, especially on leading platforms like MEXC with billions in daily volume.
  • Options: Less liquid, but growing steadily as crypto adoption broadens.

Time Sensitivity

  • Futures: Not affected by time decay. Perpetual futures have no expiry.
  • Options: Value diminishes as expiration approaches if the option is not exercised profitably.

Which Should You Trade: Futures or Options?

The choice depends on trading goals, risk tolerance, and market experience.

  • Futures may suit traders who:
    • Want high liquidity and deep order books.
    • Prefer leveraged trading opportunities.
    • Actively manage short-term positions.
  • Options may suit traders who:
    • Want capped downside risk.
    • Use hedging strategies to protect portfolios.
    • Value flexibility over mandatory settlement.

In practice, many professional traders combine both instruments depending on market conditions.

Crypto derivatives adoption continues to expand worldwide. In Asia and Latin America, retail traders are increasingly turning to futures platforms like MEXC for meme coin trading and high-leverage opportunities. In Europe and North America, institutions are incorporating crypto options into risk management strategies as regulatory clarity improves. This regional diversification underscores how futures and options are shaping the global financial landscape.

Conclusion

Futures and options are powerful tools that expand the possibilities of crypto trading. While both provide leverage and hedging opportunities, futures are better suited for liquidity-driven strategies and high-frequency trading, whereas options offer capped risk and strategic flexibility. As the crypto market evolves in 2025, understanding these instruments will be essential for making informed trading decisions.

Her voice still lives in my heart. She left behind a cultural legacy that continues to guide us,” shares Vandana Gupte, well-known Marathi stage and film actress.

My mother was not just a great artist, she was the gentlest person I have ever known. She always told me that real greatness lies in humility and kindness,” recalls Bharati Achrekar, actress known for her roles in Marathi and Hindi theatre and television.

Maharashtra’s Own ‘Manik Ratna’

Born in 1926, Manik Varma was one of the most famous voices in Hindustani classical music. Her songs such as “Ghananila Ladivala,” “Amrutahuni God,” “Kshanbhar Ughad Nayan Deva,” and “Hasale Mani Chandane” remain favourites among listeners even today.
