Nritarutya will present Bhakti – A Shared Longing, a dance-theatre production conceived and directed by choreographer Mayuri Upadhya, at the Studio Theatre, Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC), Mumbai, on 3 and 4 September 2026 at 8:00 PM.
The production draws inspiration from the lives and poetry of saint-poets from across India, bringing together dance, live music, theatre and visual storytelling in a multidisciplinary performance.
Exploring Shared Traditions of Devotion
Inspired by figures including Purandara Dasa, Adi Shankaracharya, Lal Ded, Kabir, Meerabai, Fakir Lalon Shah and Amir Khusrow, Bhakti – A Shared Longing reflects on ideas that transcend regional, linguistic and religious boundaries. While each saint-poet belonged to a distinct cultural tradition, their writings expressed values of compassion, equality and devotion that continue to resonate today.
Rather than presenting these voices individually, the production examines the common threads that connect them, inviting audiences to engage with India’s diverse devotional heritage through contemporary performance.
