Indian Air Force Day : Celebrating the Pride of India

India is blessed with a dedicated and powerful Armed Force, willing to go any length to protect the country. It is due to their devotion and love for the country that India is free from any foreign invaders today. It is their undivided attention and relentless dedication for their country that enabled India to withstand any attack from foreign powers. Today, the Indian Army is one of the most powerful Armed Forces in the world. The Indian Armed forces consist of four main branches, the Indian Air Force, the Indian Army, the Indian Navy, and the Indian Coast Guard. The Ministry of Defence manages the Indian Armed Forces. The Indian Air Force Day celebrates the bravery of the Indian Air Force.

The Indian Army is the largest part of the Indian Armed Forces and is responsible for protecting the country and safeguarding its borders. Indian Navy is responsible for securing India’s maritime borders and guarding the same in case of war or aggression from foreign powers. The Indian Coast Guard works in close association with the Indian Navy, and it is responsible for enforcing Indian Maritime rules and in defending India’s Maritime Interests. The Indian Air force is responsible for protecting the airspace and averting any threats targeted against the country’s well-being.

On October 8th, 2020, the Indian Air Force marked its 88th anniversary. The air wing of India’s armed forces, the Indian Air Force, (IAF), protects the country by securing its airspace and engaging in aerial warfare in case of armed conflicts. The Indian Air Force day marks the anniversary of the establishment of the Indian Air force. Also called the Bharatiya Vayu Sena, the IAF is now composed of devoted and skilled personnel who would stop at nothing to ensure the country’s safety.

The Indian Air force is a significant part of the Indian Military. Its primary duty is to protect and safeguard the country through aerial warfare in case of threats or attacks by any foreign power. Besides securing the airspace, the Indian Air force also provides support in case of any natural calamities. For instance, during natural disasters like the floods, the Indian Air Force plays a major role in providing medical aid, distributing food supplies, and rescuing people. Hence, the Indian Air Force is one of the most significant and prestigious branches of the Indian Armed forces.  Strategic planning, precision, and innovation are the characteristics that set the Indian Air Forces distinct from others.

At the time of its establishment, India was under the rule of the United Kingdom and hence was named as the Royal Indian Air Force. It was only in the 1950s that it was renamed as Indian Air Force. Since India’s Independence, the Indian Air force has played a significant role in safeguarding and protecting the country against threats. Since Independence, the IAF has fought in several battles and today holds the position as the fourth largest Air Force in the world. After 1950, the Indian Air force has been an important part of the wars that ensued between India and the neighbouring countries. Apart from this, the IAF has also been involved in the major operations such as Operation Vijay, which was associated with the annexation of Goa.

The Indian Air force day is celebrated on October 8th, every year, to create awareness about the IAF among India’s citizens and to uphold the sacrifices made by the IAF officers to protect the country against any foreign threats. Apart from protecting the nation against threats, the IAF also plays a significant role in providing support during natural disasters by being an important part of the rescue mission.

The Indian Air force day is celebrated on October 8th, because it was on this day in 1932, that it was formed as a part of the Royal Air Force. The Indian Air force was initially a part of the Royal Air force of the United Kingdom. It was only after World War II that it was renamed as the Royal Indian Air Force. Though established in 1932, the first operational squadron was organized only a year later in 1933. The motto of the Indian Air Force is ‘Touching The Sky With Glory’. The Honorable President of India acts as the Commander in Chief of the Indian Air force.

The main event which marks the IAF day celebrations is the parade, which takes place at the Hindon Air Force base located in Ghaziabad. Earlier (till 2005-06), the Indian Air Force day’s celebrations used to be held at Palam. However, due to some issues regarding the air traffic, it shifted to the Hindon Air force base. During this day, the CAF, Chief of Air Staff, awards medals to selected officers. The event is quite prestigious and is viewed around the country with great respect.

This year, the event also displayed the various fixed-wing aircraft and the helicopters to the public. A full rehearsal of the events that were to be conducted was also organized earlier. Apart from being televised, the event is also attended by many citizens from around the country and the retired officers and their families. This year the event was made even more special as the celebrations also featured the Rafale fighter aircraft. The IAF establishments around the country also celebrate the day through some events. Usually, the events which are organized in the IAF establishments are attended by veterans. However, this year, there were restrictions due to the pandemic.

The Indian air force plays a significant and irreplaceable role in the Indian Armed forces. It has a significant role in maintaining the peace and security of the nation. Today the Indian Air Force consists of incredibly skilled and brave warriors who stand courageously to safeguard the nation against any element that might threaten its peace. Counted as one among the powerful air forces in the world,  the IAF is also one of the most technologically advanced in the world.  The Indian Air Force has also played a significant role in some UN missions.  From being an airforce with only seven sepoys, the IAF now has about 1,500 aircraft and 1,70,000 personnel and working day and night to secure the country from threats.

Today, the IAF has all the modern weaponry and highly efficient jets, which provide a strong shield to the country.  The brave warriors of the IAF always work in unity as a team in planning out strategies and implementing them. The IAF is continuously in a mode of transformation as new technologies and new upgrades replace the old ones. This preparedness is crucial for the country as it enables the country to be alert for unexpected emergencies.

The IAF has completed many missions successfully, and other than being a significant part of the defence, the IAF has also helped in certain other calamities. The Indian Air force is a source of pride, not only for the Indian Armed forces but also for the entire country. Their dedication and hard work have many times proved beneficial for the country. Be it a threat from a foreign power or a natural calamity, the Indian Air force is always quick to act with determination and precise planning. For every citizen of India, the Indian Air Force is a matter of pride and prestige and is treated with utmost respect and reverence.

Aakriti Kohli – ‘She’s An Illustrator’ For All The Untapped Emotions Within You

Aakriti Kohli Illustrator

When life occurs, it goes on till a 70 with the job being a common denominator for all of us. In the midst of this phenomenon called life, it is our responsibility to be the changemakers. This is what Aakriti Kohli, a graphic designer by profession did during her days of lockdown. Her page ShesAnIllustrator is the not-so-loud verbal anecdote of her and every woman’s innermost voice. Aakriti, who wears her passions on her nose ring and paints her thoughts on the canvas of her life, motivates every human being to change, untangle, liberate, loose, survive, heal, grow, find, harmonize, believe, flow, move and be. Here are the excerpts of my conversation with her:

What is the story behind ShesAnIllustrator coming into existence?

I have been a professional artist for the last 7 years. I have worked with several agencies and brands. I never ever worked on a project so personal, but it was my intention always. Life was quite busy with work and other thingummies that I never got the stimulus to start something which would be an expression of me. Then few months into the lockdown and I became overwhelmed with the fact that I could not travel anymore (I love traveling!). Forget travel, the mere fact that going out was barred and meeting friends became prohibited made me search for the one thing that was missing.

Aakriti Kohli Illustrator 01

All the few past experiences and problems that I had struggled with piled up in front of me. Then I knew that I wanted all these emotions that I have endured to be expressed in the form of art. I have a strong belief that art has the power to express when words fall short. As human beings and the storehouse of all these emotions, sometimes we choose to express them, and sometimes we don’t. People are situationally hesitant to listen to their own voices due to inward and outward pressures. I wanted to be a motivation for them while definitely voicing and expressing myself through my first ever series called BeingMe. And so came into existence my page ShesAnIllustrator.

Why are your graphics centered only around femininity?

As I said previously, I have had my struggles of being a woman. And every woman at some point has succumbed to these struggles which have been forcefully added to the not-so-easy lives of women. These experiences are where we are told that as a woman we cannot do this or we cannot say that. And that has always bothered me. Why are we not supposed to do something which is a way of life or a livelihood for the other gender? If something is wrong and unacceptable, then it’s practice must be wrong for all and not just one specific gender. Although, these gender biases and prejudices have hardly bothered me but this privilege of mine didn’t stop me from becoming a voice for my women. Most would find this attention-seeking artwork and I would reiterate that it is indeed seeking your attention to divert yourself to the sufferings and compromises of women. The patriarchy puts men behind the farce of gender-defined roles as well. All these unanswered questions and the curiosity of finding a valid reason behind these inequalities made me choose femininity as my desired subject.

Aakriti Kohli Illustrator 03

How do the graphics on your art page communicate your inner turmoil- or as I should the inner turmoil of every woman?

The primordial problem that lies here is that we often accept things as they are without ever questioning what should be. I would say my graphics are rather an overflow of the unspoken and unwritten emotions that emerged out of these pressures and turmoil. The principle of listening to your own self and your inner voice is equivalent to Yoga. Even if you fail somewhere, you will have the satisfaction that you heard yourself before anyone.

Your captions are often verbs that are emancipating. How did the idea of using verbs as captions hit you?

This idea is driven by two factors. Firstly, professionally, it is my responsibility to find concepts and meaning in everything around me. Secondly, I wanted my captions to be as powerful, clear, and understandable by my audience as I wanted the thought behind my art to be. It precisely defined my mood and/or emotion and it just happened. I wanted people to relate to it. I wanted them to read the caption and suddenly feel an usher in emotions that some of them might be ignoring. I wanted to make a strong connection with my audience by inspiring them. And what is a better way than using verbs? 🙂

Aakriti Kohli Illustrator 04

Very well put! Have you ever faced backlashes or criticisms on your IG page? If yes, then in what ways?

I wouldn’t say criticisms, but I have had queries and questions directed at the kind of clothes that my female characters wore. I felt this was my responsibility to educate them about the noun called ‘Choice’. On a happier note, I have received amazing responses for my work. People have been appreciative and have also motivated me to do more of what I do.

Do you sell your digital prints anywhere? if yes, then where can we find them?

Yes, my digital prints are available through my dm on Instagram @shesanillustrator

Which graphic artists or digital illustrators do you look up to or fangirl over?

Malika Favre! I love her work, her digital color palette, the play of light and shadow, the finesse and style! She is an artist on fleek for me!????????????

What does feminism mean to you?

Feminism has always been about equal rights & opportunities for all the sexes in all aspects. Similarly, the same rules and boundaries must be laid for all the sexes. Unfairness in terms of opportunities and boundaries when it comes to women is what feminism fights for. Not just equality, but equity in everything is what feminism stands for for me.

Do your graphics send out the same message? If yes, then how have you been able to educate your followers?

Yes, I have felt that I did encourage them to listen to their inner voice and make choices for themselves. The belief in themselves, embracing the darkness to make way for light, and not giving in to the pressures of society will help you accept yourself which is the most important foundation of life. It makes you independent, confident, and a fighter. It is only after you believe in yourself that you can change the world one step at a time. I feel this is the need of the hour and my art speaks loudly of it.

What is your message to the budding artists in a similar industry?

I would say keep creating for you have the superpower to connect people with people by motivating, inspiring, educating, influencing, impacting, and changing the world.

What is your favorite artwork of yours? I know it is like selecting between your own babies, but if you were to choose, which one will you choose and why?

Now that’s difficult (ponders). I have put in a lot of effort and thought into each of my pieces. They’re all my favorite! To choose one I would say the 8th strip ‘Finding’ of my 12 series post BeingMe could earn some brownie points. This is because, only after I ‘found’ back my lost flower, or literally my passion, ShesAnIllustrator came into existence.

What new things are you planning to experiment with, in the near future?

I have more things lined up, a few topics such as culture, travel, and positivity I have been working on. And for that you may want to keep an eye on my page ShesAnIllustrator!

Individuals in India are often diagnosed with obesity. The medical condition is rising in young adults across the country with each passing year. It is essential to understand that obesity, if not treated on time, can cause severe health issues in a person.

October 11 is observed as World Obesity Day around the world. Even though we are a little late here, there is no better time to promote awareness regarding obesity than now.

As we know, being overweight or obese can lead to several health issues down the line. An individual can suffer from respiratory problems, heart disorder, hypertension, depression, and more. Here, we have discussed how and why it is crucial to lead a healthy life by fighting obesity.

Are you overweight or obese?

Medical experts use the Body Mass Index (BMI) to determine your weight category. It is calculated based on the current height and weight of a person. In fact, you can use the BMI calculator tool to determine the same.

Furthermore, if the BMI value is between 25 and 29.9, then the individual is regarded as overweight. If the BMI value is more than 30, the person is said to be obese. The healthy body weight range for BMI is between 18.5 and 25.

So, what is the solution?

In case you indeed fall in the obese category, there are certain lifestyle changes that you can do to lower the BMI value. Some of the effective ways to fight obesity are as follows –

  • It helps if your junk food intake is limited or stopped altogether.
  • Make sure that you get yourself to exercise every day.
  • Maintain a nutrient-rich diet as it will ensure that your body gets all the necessary food components.
  • Avoid sugary and alcoholic drinks.
  • Try to maintain a healthy work-life balance and look for activities to reduce stress and anxiety.

Why is it necessary to lead a healthy life?

No matter how much money you earn over your lifetime, it ultimately goes to waste if you are not around to enjoy the fruits of your hard work.

Besides this, maintaining a healthy weight will boost your immunity and keep you emotionally healthy. It further contributes to the fact that you can keep working for a long time (if you plan to do so). Moreover, healthy lifestyle habits are vital to maintaining a youthful appearance.

Plus, financially speaking, you get to save on your health insurance premiums. Because people suffering from obesity are considered as a high-risk applicant and charged with higher health insurance premiums compared to the rest, so, leading a healthy life will allow you to secure cost-effective premium rates on insurance plans.

Over To You

If you are suffering from obesity, it is time to get on a weight loss regime that will help you maintain a healthy lifestyle. It is also essential to understand that the BMI chart is different for men and women. So, when you calculate your BMI, consider the right chart for optimum results.

Painting-Colours-That-Will-Soothe-Your-Mind

We live in a world where everything is moving rapidly and no matter how difficult it is; we need to keep up with the pace to survive. In this race of constantly following the routine, going to work, running to catch the train, getting stuck in traffic, we end up longing for a moment of peace. Now, what can be a better place than your home to find that solace!

And do you know how your home can help you in keeping the stress at bay? Through colors! Yes, you read it right. As per scientists, colors have a great impact on our minds and if you look at the right colors, your mood can change drastically. In this article, we have scooped out some of the most relaxing painting colors that can help you relax at home. Check them out and pick your favorite!

Blue

With its cool appearance, blue stands out for its soothing ability to calm the mind and reduce tension. This is one of the best colors to choose for your bedroom as it can improve your sleep quality. To begin with, you can go for soft and neutral shades of blue for a calming effect. Some people often go for blue-greens for a serene touch to the walls.

Pink

If you believe in Feng Shui, then pink is the color that brings soothing energies in a room and keeps them understated. This feminine color also promotes balances of energies while giving a calming effect. However, do not opt for bright and vivid pink. Go for soft and dusty shades or you can also choose pastel pinks for your house walls.

Violet

Though it is a royal color signifying strength and wisdom, violet also signifies inner peace. Some studies even suggest that violet enhances the power of meditation almost 10 times! So now that you know its secret, don’t hesitate to choose it as your wall colour design next time you think of revamping your house.

Green

In a study conducted by MSU, it was found that people who spend time in green-colored rooms scored low on stress ratings. In short, be ready to shed your stress if you choose green for your home. Interestingly, both dark and light shades of green have positive effects. Thus, you won’t have to worry about choosing the right one.

Whites

Nothing can beat white color when it comes to calming effects. A bright white can instantly amp up the mood of your home and make you feel relaxed. You can also pair it with blue or even grey to create a balanced and calm environment in your home.

Yellow

Now when we say yellow for a calming effect, we refer to the subtle and pastel yellow. If you can get the right shade of yellow for your home, it can work wonders in changing your mood. This is a great color that can help in elevating your mood and making you start the day with a happy smile.

Mixtures

If you are a person who can’t settle for one, there is always the scope of variations when it comes to house painting. Create a blend of any of these gorgeous colors that we have mentioned and bring a unique aesthetic touch. For instance, try blending violet with gray and you can get a soothing lilac grey hue.

Nobel Prize Winners From India : Making India Proud

Nobel Prize Winners From India

Many Indians have gained worldwide recognition and acquired prestigious positions due to their contribution to various and extensive fields. Several of such personalities have been conferred with the Nobel Prize to honour and mark their global significance. Nobel Prize winners from India have indeed achieved greatness.

Established in 1895 according to the will of a Swedish engineer, chemist, and industrialist Alfred Nobel, the annual Nobel Prize is a set of awards that honour those who have done unprecedented work in several fields including that of Chemistry, Physics, Peace, Literature and Physiology or Medicine.

Both Indian citizens and Indian-origin foreign citizens have gained the stature to receive this renowned international award because of their revolutionary discoveries, research, social work, and so on. Here, we put forth a list of all these tremendous icons who make their country proud.

Rabindranath Tagore – 1913

Nobel-Prize-Winners-from-India-Rabindranath-Tagore-01

Born in Calcutta, Rabindranath Tagore was a Bengali poet, writer, composer, and painter. His writing incorporated the lives of common people, world philosophies, literary criticism, and social issues. He is the first Indian to be awarded the Nobel Prize in 1913, in the field of Literature. He was honoured with the award for “his profoundly sensitive, fresh and beautiful verse” in his poetry collection titled Gitanjali or Song Offerings, which is centred on the theme of devotion.

Tagore incorporated novel forms of prose and verse in colloquial Bengali, doing away with the classical models based on Sanskrit. His ideals were deeply ingrained in the betterment and upliftment of the people so that they can act upon the values of humanism. He pursued to bring together in harmony the worlds of both the West and the East for education and philosophy.

Tagore was a staunch supporter of the Swadeshi Movement during India’s freedom struggle and believed that the people of India should be self-sufficient, economically, and spiritually. However, his nationalistic principles were far apart from his extremist contemporaries, and he advocated that freedom, liberation, and empowerment should be aimed for the benefit of the whole of humanity and not be restricted and governed by bias according to the geographical bounds of nations. When in 1915 he was felicitated with Knighthood by King George V, he denounced the acceptance as a gesture of protest against the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre.

Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman – 1930

Nobel-prize-winners-from-india-Sir-C-V-Raman

In 1928, along with his student K. S. Krishnan, Sir C.V. Raman discovered that when light traverses a transparent material, some of the light that is deflected changes in wavelength and amplitude because it has caused an energy state transition in the material’s molecules. They named this phenomenon as the “modified scattering”.

Raman was born in Tiruchirappalli, India, and his discovery of what came to be called as the Raman scattering or the Raman effect was what brought him worldwide honour in the form of the Nobel Prize in the field of Physics in 1930. His work on the ‘Molecular Diffraction of Light,’ which was published in 1922 led him to this ultimate discovery, which took place on February 28, 1928, a day now observed by the Government of India as National Science Day, every year.

Other than his additional interest in the optics of colloids, electrical and magnetic anisotropy, and the physiology of human vision, Raman also studied the fundamentals of crystal dynamics and optical behavior of various iridescent substances like pearls, agate, and opal. He was also keen on his understanding of the physics of musical sounds which contributed to his later works on optics and quantum mechanics.

Early in his career in 1924, Raman was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society and was knighted in 1929. Raman founded the Indian Academy of Sciences in Bangalore, in 1933, and also established the Raman Research Institute in 1948.

In 1954, Raman received the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award, from the Government of India, which he later smashed in protest against Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s policies regarding scientific research.

Har Gobind Khorana – 1968

Nobel-prize-winners-from-india-Har-Gobind-Khorana

Alongside Robert W. Holley and Marshall W. Nirenberg, Raipur-born Har Gobind Khorana was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1968 for the excellent achievements in the field of Physiology or Medicine.

Coming from the humble and the only literate family in his village, Khorana completed his renowned work on the decoding of genes and synthesis of proteins in the Wisconsin Institute for Enzyme Research, at the University of Wisconsin. Khorana’s main area of expertise was nucleotides which are subunits of DNA and RNA. While RNA is the part of the DNA strand that directs the formation of proteins in the form of tissue and muscle, nucleotides are essential parts of the same and decide which proteins make up which cells and tissue. Khorana, along with Holley and Nirenberg, figured out how nucleic acids translated the genetic code from DNA.

RNA is made up of four chemical bases that combined to form three-letter ‘words’ that represent amino acids. Since proteins are made of amino-acids, Khorana used protein synthesis to prove that the genetic code consists of sixty-four different three-letter ‘words’, which dictated the cell where to begin reading the code and where to stop.

Khorana also constructed the world’s first synthetic gene in 1972, another breakthrough that is considered as an imperative for genetic research and biotechnology even today.

Mother Teresa – 1979

Nobel-prize-winners-from-india-Mother-Teresa

The world-renowned figure of humanity and peace, Mother Teresa, was born in a devout Catholic family in Albania and was baptized as Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu. At the age of twelve, while attending a congregation, Agnes received a spiritual calling from God. And this eventually led her to leave for the Sisters of Loreto in Dublin, Ireland, and start her life as Sister Mary Teresa from the age of eighteen.

Mother Teresa, named so after having taken her final vows, taught History and Geography at St. Mary’s High School for Girls when she travelled to India. She was deeply moved by the widespread suffering, poverty, and deprivation that she saw in the country. On the train to Darjeeling in 1946, she received another religious “call within a call” and decided to completely devote her life to help the ones who were abandoned in society.

In 1950, she founded the Missionaries of Charity which played a significant role in creating a leper colony, orphanages, family counselling programs, nursing homes, and several mobile health clinics to help the underprivileged ones. The congregation also administers centres for people suffering from HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis. The members of this Roman Catholic organization profess to chastity, obedience, and wholeheartedly serve the needy and the poor.

Posthumously canonized by Pope Francis as Saint Teresa, Mother Teresa received the Nobel Prize in 1979 for her undaunted work to help eradicate distress across society. She was also honoured with the Bharat Ratna in 1980. Her spirit and actions directed at charity still pose as a flame of inspiration for humanitarians around the world.

Subrahmanyam Chandrasekhar – 1983

Nobel-prize-winners-from-india-Subrahmanyam-Chandrasekhar

C.V Raman’s nephew, Subrahmanyam Chandrasekhar, was one of the first scientists to pair the study of astronomy with physics. This remarkable astrophysicist of the twentieth century was bestowed with the Nobel Prize in 1983 for his revolutionary theoretical studies on the fundamental processes involved in the structure and evolution of stars.

Chandrasekhar determined that a star with mass above 1.44 times that of the Sun does not form a white dwarf which contracts to about the size of the Earth under the influence of its own gravity. Instead, such massive stars continue to collapse in on themselves until they blow off their gaseous envelope in a supernova explosion and form a neutron star. Black holes are formed in this process when a star of enormous mass dies. This upper limit of the mass of a star came to be known as the Chandrasekhar limit. Current theoretical models of stellar evolution and black holes have been based on Chandrasekhar’s discovery.

Chandrasekhar also was the first to elaborate and discuss in detail about ‘Dynamical Friction’ or gravitational lag, also known as Chandrasekhar Friction. He described this new quantity with the help of a set of twenty partial differential equations. With this, he solved the complex problem of stellar dynamics by studying the fluctuating gravitational fields of stars moving about the galactic centre of the Milky Way.

Amartya Sen – 1998

Nobel-prize-winners-from-india-Amartya-Sen

Amartya Sen was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 1998 for his unprecedented contribution to welfare economics, economic and social justice, decision theory, social choice theory, public health, division of important resources available in a community, and in-depth research on the causes and prevention of famine.

Sen’s keen interest and approach in his research are evident in his book Poverty and Famines: An Essay on Entitlement and Deprivation (1981). Here, he concluded and elaborated on how famines were not caused due to a shortage of food supply but other socio-economic causes like unemployment, low-wages, inflation, and inadequate and unequal distribution of food.

Sen is regarded as “the conscience of his profession” because of his resolute contribution to the field of welfare economics where he sought to evaluate policies for the development of the economy of the entire society. Researchers were influenced by his monograph Collective Choice and Social Welfare (1970) and governments and international organizations based their policies on managing food crises on Sen’s work. He has designed effective methods to measure poverty as well as how to predict and overcome famine.

Harvard President Neil Rudestine describes Sen as a teacher with a moral vision who establishes his work and views against the backdrop of economics as well as philosophy. Sen is strongly opinionated in his political views on the functions of democracy and social reformation and how it must precede the economic one.

Venkatraman Ramakrishnan – 2009

Nobel-prize-winners-from-india-Venkatraman-Ramakrishnan

Ramakrishnan was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry, the first Indian to achieve this feat in the field, for his research on the atomic structure and function of cellular bodies called ribosomes.

As a biophysicist in the Brookhaven National Laboratory in New York, Ramakrishnan utilized the techniques of neuron scattering and X-Ray crystallography to explicate the structure of ribosomes and other molecules like histones. He produced illuminating scientific papers based on the RNA structure and organization of the small ribosomal subunit of the bacterium called Thermus thermophilus. He also revealed the structures of antibiotics bound to small subunits of ribosomes.

Ramakrishnan was made a fellow of the Royal Society of London in 2003 and later, in 2015, became the society’s first Indian-born president. He was also included in the United Kingdom’s New Year Honours List for 2012 as a ‘knight bachelor’.

Kailash Satyarthi – 2014

Nobel-prize-winners-from-india-Kailash-Satyarthi

Satyarthi received the Nobel Prize in 2014, jointly with Malala Yousafzai, for their contribution to social reform for children and the youth and the universal right to education for all.

Kailash Sharma changed his upper-class Brahmin surname to ‘Satyarthi’ which was derived from Dayananda Sarasvati’s work Satyarth Prakash, which translates to ‘the light of truth’. Satyarthi was motivated by Dayananda’s advocacy of the abolition of the caste system and child marriages and thus, started his own magazine titled Sangharsh Jaari Rahega. The magazine spoke about the lives of the oppressed and vulnerable people of society. Satyarthi was aware of how pervasive poverty in a family leads to piling up of debts to money-lenders and, subsequently, to bonded labour of their children in place of monetary repayment.

Satyarthi founded the nonprofit Bachhpan Bachao Andolan in 1980 which took a radical approach to free children from the bondage of labour, slavery as well as trafficking. The BBA also set up several ‘ashrams’ where the freed youth could start or resume their education. Satyarthi’s organizing of the Global March against Child Labour in 1998 became one of the largest social movements that brought to light and demanded admonition of the worst forms of child exploitation. In 2011, the Bal Mitra Programme was launched to ensure that children in villages were enrolled in schools and child labour was banned.

Satyarthi has also served on the board and committee of several international organizations, including the Center for Victims of Torture (USA) and the International Labor Rights Fund (USA).

Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee – 2019

Nobel-prize-winners-from-india-Abhijit-Vinayak-Banerjee

Abhijit Banerjee was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize for Economic Sciences along with Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer in 2019 for their contribution to an experimental approach to alleviate global poverty.

Banerjee and Duflo wrote that the policies that are implemented for the poor are usually based on misguided perceptions and generalized ‘one size fits all’ concept. The existence of global poverty is undermined because it is wrongly regarded that the existence of the poor is insignificant due to their minimal possessions.

To formulate better policies that consider the complex economic existence of the poor, Banerjee implemented the carefully constructed field experiments in several low and middle-income countries, including the method of Randomized Controlled Trials.

Banerjee, Duflo, and Kremer did extensive research in the mid-1990s and determined that the cause of poor education was due to the inadequacy of teaching policies to adapt to the needs of the weaker children. They proposed that remedial tutoring and computer-based teaching guides could serve to improve education. They also concluded that following the method of short-term contracts to employ teachers and renewing them based on the teacher’s performance was a far more effective way to combat teacher absenteeism which is a prevalent problem in low-income countries.

Field experiments were also conducted in the city of Hyderabad, India to study the effectiveness of microcredit to increase the profit and investment of small-businesses. Banerjee, Duflo, and Kremer’s teamwork have led to beneficial policy-making all across the globe. Their approach and methods were made standard in the field of developmental economics and served as the foundation for several public policy formulations.

How Does Next Vacay Work?

Travel-Loving-couple
Photo by Toa Heftiba on Unsplash

Next Vacay comes from a travel-loving couple who developed software that searches flight databases to come up with the best deals out there. An algorithm does an automatic search on various airfare sites, coming up with the best deals without wasting the time and energy it usually takes to go through individual flight sites. They started uncovering such amazing deals that friends and family wanted in and soon realized that they’d created a valuable tool that could benefit travelers who want to explore the world on a budget. From there, they started Next Vacay.

If you want to make use of the genius behind this subscription service, it’s super easy to get started. First, you select the airport nearest to you. The service is available for airports in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Australia for now. That’s all you need to sign up for a free trial period of a month.

Then, start checking your email. You’ll start getting email alerts with return flights at travel-hacking prices right away based on the airport you choose as your home base. Next Vacay will also search airports within about three or four hours of driving time to help you make the most of deals you might want to use.

Like the look of a deal? Your email will also contain a link for you to book your flight directly with the airline. That simplifies the process so you don’t have to deal with any hard-to-understand instructions or jump through hoops to find a way to book once you spot a deal. You just book as you would with any other flight.

Just sign up for the annual Next Vacay membership and you’re all set to enjoy these perks for the next year. That’s seriously all you have to do. Oh, and that membership doesn’t cost what you might expect to pay for such an amazing service. It’s only $25 for a yearlong membership.

You read that right.

$25.

For a full year of super cheap flights.

If that ridiculously inexpensive price to subscribe doesn’t convince you, Next Vacay even lets you get your money back if you don’t love the options the team finds you after six months of trying out the service. That makes Next Vacay incredibly low-risk while offering unbeatable rewards for people who want to get out and see the world.

How Is Next Vacay Different From Those Other Travel Deal Sites?

Travel Plan

This subscription service sets itself apart from other travel deal sites you might’ve tried to use in the past. Next Vacay’s flight deals are amazing, but the whole service is a great deal for you overall. A Next Vacay membership is only $25 for a year, which means the service will likely pay for itself the minute you book your first flight with the price they find for you.

You also don’t risk anything when you try out Next Vacay. Not only can you try it out with a free trial for the first month, the guarantee to get your money back means you’re not risking anything when you try the service.

Next Vacay is unique in the way it organizes deals for you as well. The software searches for deals out of your local airport instead of looking for specific destinations. You don’t have to sit around waiting for those hard-to-come-by deals to London or Rome that don’t even leave from an airport you can easily reach. Instead, you can let your Next Vacay emails inspire you to find new places to travel. You’ll get all the great deals departing from your chosen airports and can plan your next dream vacation accordingly.

Additionally, Next Vacay will search within a three- or four-hour drive from your main airport, expanding the deals you can take advantage of based on the reality of how people travel. They know most folks won’t mind traveling a bit longer if it means spectacular savings to a dream destination. By including airports in a range of your home base, you’ll have even more options for booking deals that let you save while exploring the world.

Another thing that sets Next Vacay apart from other travel deal sites is the way they allow you to book your flights. Every Next Vacay email includes a link to the flight information so you can book your flight directly with the airline.

The direct booking method comes with plenty of benefits for savvy travelers. It protects you in the event you run into problems while traveling, as often airlines won’t help you in the event of delays or cancellations if you book through a third party. You also get to use the airline and credit card miles you’ve saved up to use for travel since you’re booking directly anyway. That translates to even more savings.

You’re not limited in the number of tickets you can buy, either. If the airline has seats available and you have more people you want to take with you, just book additional passengers using the same deal.

Unlike other flight alerts, Next Vacay doesn’t focus on last-minute deals. The service knows what it’s like for real people to travel. You can’t always jump on a deal at the last moment and have to first ask for time off at work and coordinate with a partner or friend for travel. That’s why Next Vacay sends most deals in a one- to ten-month range. You’ll have enough time to plan ahead, all while making use of offers that are too good to pass up.

Next Vacay doesn’t earn commission when you book. The service runs based on memberships, so you can rest easy knowing you’re truly getting unbiased deals for the best flights out there. If you go with a deal site that earns a kick-back from airlines, you can never be quite sure you’re getting the best deal. Next Vacay, on the other hand, operates to keep subscribers happy, not to earn more for themselves based on the flights you book.

Finally, Next Vacay is a small business that delivers a personal touch. The husband and wife duo behind the service makes sure to double-check every deal their software uncovers before they send it to you. They’ll also take your feedback into consideration when continuing to send you emails, so you’ll get alerts that are truly tailored to your travel needs.

Is Next Vacay Right for You?

It is the art and culture of a society that defines its identity, be it for the people or the nation. To contribute to the growth and prosperity of art is to contribute to the holistic development of the nation. The artist plays a significant role as a reformer, an educator, a documenter as well as the enhancer of sensibility. Thus, an art student seeks excellence in creative vision as well as perfection in the skills, as the opportunities in the field of creative art have seen a manifold increase in recent years.

It is of no surprise, therefore, that so many from the newer generations are setting upon the bewitching path of enrichment that has been set by their extraordinary predecessors, some of whom have been harbingers of new waves of development in art.
